It’s now considered that the most significant time to protect skin is in the early years of childhood. Kids and teens who avoid sunburn reduce the risks of developing skin cancer and melanoma in later life. So every time you allow your children to get sunburnt, you increase their chances of having problems as an adult. The time to take action is now. You don’t have to be a nag, you just have to show leadership, and maybe a bit of firm love, eg “no hat – no play.” They’ll love you for it later, you can be sure of that. I am a melanoma sufferer myself, and I wish my parents knew then what we know now. I could have avoided surgery 3 times!
